ready for spring!

I think just about everyone in the nation is ready for this crazy Winter to be over with.  What a bunch of cold, snowy weather so many had, including us here in North Texas.  Well really, ours was nothing compared to the Northeast, and even our friends up in the Chicago area, but it has definitely been long and majorly dreary.  Even as I type this, the skies are grey and we’re due more cloudy days and rain this week.  Not complaining about the rain, we always need it.

So what “ready for Spring” means to me is, well, some cleaning.  Bleh.  Let’s shy away from that for a minute.  Or longer… It also means getting the poor potted plants that I brought inside several months ago, back to their rightful positions outside.  I’m fully aware that in our hot climate, I should shy away from pots and containers, and plant directly in the ground, and definitely plant natives that can handle the long hot Summer.  But nooooo.  I want pots.  Lots of them.  And I want them full of succulents, and tropicals, herbs, and all kinds of things that challenge the heck out of me.  Glutton for punishment, I know.  But they are so wonderful to have around.

Succulents are a huge thing right now, both indoors and out.  People are incorporating them into their home décor, and you’ve never seen so many cool containers.  Air plants too.  You can get lost on Pinterest gazing at them, for hours.  I know.  First hand.  Ahem.

So today, I decided to unload the huge rack of plants in my den, that I’ve been begging to stay alive just a little longer until I could get them back out into the open air, where there’s real light, so they can thrive and get a drink of some real rain water.  But the caveat is – it’s only mid March.  And anyone who pays attention to the Almanac or just history itself, knows that I may be scrambling around in a couple of weeks to get them covered, or heaven forbid, bring them back inside for one last freeze hurrah.  The rule around here is, don’t plant or put plants outside till after Easter.  I have always thought, “Excuse me, but Easter changes every year.  How can you rationalize such a statement?”  But for some stinkin’ reason, it’s truth.  But here I sit anyway, relishing in the idea of having the pots all lined up and ready on a great set of shelves the hubby made me a few years back.  As a matter of fact, I have a picture of how it looks when everybody’s happy from sometime last year.  Here you go:

Man, those look great.  I still have several of them; a few are gone, and a bunch more added-especially of the succulent variety.  When things get to looking really good again, I might post a pic from this year.

So good luck with whatever “ready for Spring” means to you.  Now, on to the cleaning.  Bleh.
