sprinkler line repair
During a recent project installing 4x4 posts for some recently acquired Coolaroo Shade Sails (another post coming soon!), I had to change hats. While in the digging process, I managed a direct hit to a sprinkler line with the post-hole digger I was using. For anyone familiar with a post-hole digger, you know that it almost looks like two shovels that hinge just above the blades. Needless to say I now had a nasty double break in my ½” PVC line, which resulted in an approximately eight inch section of the line having to be removed. For anyone that’s ever done this or had to repair a sprinkler line, you also know it’s next to impossible to just cut out the damaged section of line and install a new piece with two couplings. If you’ve read some of my other blog posts you may remember that I mention my “vault” where things go to gel. Well as luck would have it, I had deposited a memory there from another such repair back when I had a lawn care business. I remembered the part that I had been introduced to by my trusted source for “parts-and-knowledge-for-all-things-irrigation.” Ewing Irrigation introduced me to a slip fix repair nipple, and how to use it. This little inexpensive part (approx. $4) can really save your bacon. Once installed in your line, this fitting will extend or telescope out to meet up with the other end of the line you’re attempting to attach to. Be sure to check out my YouTube video to see what it looks like and how to install it:
