earth day coming right up

FIRST of all, really, every day should be Earth Day.  Really.  But I get it.  We need a day to remind us how important our wonderful world is, and how we should be taking better care of it.  I wouldn't call myself a tree-hugger, but I have definitely changed my ways in the last several years.  Oh, I'm still guilty of so many non-eco things, but I make a lot of strides now to curb that.  We do a good amount of composting for a suburban family.  We recycle.  (I even bring home the recycles from my office as our building isn't set up to collect them.)  We try to conserve energy and water, and reuse so many things.  But there is always room for improvement.  We will keep doing our very best.  We were out visiting some of our favorite haunts this morning, and one place we enjoy going to is a wonderful nursery near the Bishop Arts area of Dallas called Brumley Gardens.  It is such a cool place.  You can walk around forever and not see everything.  And they carry a wide array of plants, and have some of the best varieties of succulents around.  Sure, I shop at the big box stores for garden supplies and plants as well, but I really enjoy going here.  There's just something very nice about this place.  They strive to provide organic products; hey, they can even completely outfit your chicken coop!  They help everyone feel a little more sustainable.  Okay, I didn't mean for this to become an ad for Brumley's, but I wanted to tell you that as we were checking out this morning, the employee offered us a free tree.

Yep, a free tree. A Lacebark Elm.  (She also had Chinese Pistacio in the basket, but we have a huge one in our front yard...)  So this offer was in celebration of Earth Day coming up this Wednesday.  What a wonderful gift!  A tree!  Sure, it's not big, but it will be someday if I do things right. What if everyone planted one tree on Earth Day?  I think we'd all feel better.  So be sure to make yourself feel better by doing something kind for the earth.  On Earth Day, and every day.
